The Castle of St. Peter the Liberator of the Order of the Knights of the Hospital of St. John of Rhodes – to give it its full, comprehensive title – is Bodrum celebrated landmark. served over a period of six centuries as a garrison, has a compound encloses a small village, and also as a fortress prison. The castle is situated on a promontory, which was, according to Herodotus, a small island called Zephyria at the time of the first Dorian invasions which occurred built around the time of the Trojan war.
